Why Yoga in a gallery?

Creativity needs encouragement, it needs attention, and it needs you to use a very different part of your brain than you use at work (that is, if your work is not creative in nature). Because La Familia is all about supporting the entire creative process, it seems natural that we offer a way for people to better tap into their creative selves. Whether it is a retreat to nature or another country altogether, a workshop, series class, or simply an hour of yoga practice- we have what you need.

What style yoga is Warm H’Art based in?

The Warm H'Art practice is founded in a smooth and powerful Vinyasa Flow style. Poses are seamlessly sewn together, allowing body and mind to connect through the breath as participants flow from one movement to another. Students are encouraged to make modifications and rest as necessary to embrace the moment, finding that sweet spot of challenge and ease in each pose.

Before class begins we request you:
:: Arrive ten minutes before class begins
:: Take off your shoes and leave them in the office
:: Turn off any electronic devices
:: Find a comfortable place to sit and be prepared to practice as class begins

During class we request you:
:: Respect your body; know your limits

In addition, we will respect you by:
:: Arriving on time, with open hearts, ready to give
:: Listen to your thoughts, feelings and needs
:: Ask consent before adjusting you
:: Respect your privacy and confidentiality concerning all things voiced in class and discussion

About Your Instructor

For most of her life, instructor Mary Watts lived with a lower back discomfort. Early hip surgeries left behind an asymmetry of the pelvis, and a body working hard to compensate for it. Intrigued by yoga, she attended a class- but was not able to engage in a single pose. Thinking yoga wasn't for her, she participated in other avenues of well-being for the next four years.

In 1997 she studied vipassana meditation in Thailand, and in 1998 returned to yoga; this time with an instructor who revealed that, indeed, it was something she could practice. One day the ache in her lower back was gone, and in its place, an understanding that yoga is a journey of mindfulness and grace, not perfection.

Since that time, Mary has continued to study and practice. To share the benefits of yoga with others, she began Warm H’Art Yoga in 2003, and in 2005 joined with friends to open La Familia, The Art of Living LLC, a creative lifestyle company.

Mary’s practice has focused on guiding students toward a better understanding of their creative potential, a path enhanced by Mary’s BS in Psychology and Masters Degree in Teaching.

Mary holds a level III YogaFit Certificate and is a graduate of the 8 Limbs Yoga Centers Teacher Training Program, where she has earned her 200 hour RYT Certificate.
